Herat School of Security-II


On Thursday, June 20, 2019, the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies organized the second International symposium of “Herat School of Security”. Prominent Afghan scholars, academics, former and current government officials, members of civil society and media representatives participated in the first day of the event.
The event started with performance of Sufi Music, followed by a welcoming remark by the Director General of AISS, Dr. Davood Moradian.
Prominent Afghan and international authors presented their papers in four panel sessions titled; I) Creating Discourse; II) The Civilization of Khorasan: Tolerance, Wisdom and Guidance; III) Good Governance; Ancient Method; and IV) Peace and Tolerance. The speakers discussed concepts, such as security, governance, peace, tolerance, culture, art and human rights from eastern perspective. During the sessions, the speakers also engaged in discussions with the audience. 
Herat School of Security attempts to open a platform to discuss security from a non-western perspective. Herat School of Security aims to introduce a security discourse that is based on ethics, individual cognizance and collective tolerance. The principles that our literature and mysticism have formed as their foundations, in addition to the fact that these principles have been the key to peaceful coexistence and cultural tolerance in our multicultural region. 
The second day of the event will be held tomorrow, June 21st 2019. The panel session for the second day of the symposium will discuss ‘Identity and Politics: Sustainable Peace’ and ‘Will Peace Return to Khorasan? An Outlook for Peace in Afghanistan’.
