Roundtable discussion on Peace and Election Scenarios
On Wednesday, August 21, 2019, the regional office of Afghan institute for Strategic Studies in Heart organized a roundtable on the “Peace and Election Scenarios” with participation of academia, political Activists, civil society activists, and media representative.
In this event Dr. Mohammad Saleh Saljoqi, Former Herat MP, Mr. Ibrahim Forouzesh, University Lecturer and Mr. Basir Ahmad Daneshyar, university lecturer, were members of the panel with moderation by Mr. Arman Qader, university lecturer.
At first, Mr. Mohammad Saleh Saljoqi spoke about peace scenarios and options. Mr. Saljoqi added that the common ground between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban’s “Emirate” has not yet been identified. He also referred to Taliban views and peace talks and said that the Taliban continue to emphasize their position, “Emirate”, in Qatar. He also said that the Taliban have so far been able to recognized themselves as a political and regional intellectual force for the international community, neighbors and the Afghan government.
After that, Mr. Mohammad Ibrahim Forouzesh spoke about the elections and upcoming government amid its neighbors. He said that there are some challenges to the country's upcoming elections, such as insecurity and widespread fraud, which will put the election in crisis.
Mr. Basir Ahmad Daneshyar spoke about Lessons learned from elections, its Challenges and Opportunities. He said "peace and elections are like double-edged swords for the people in the current situation and one should be chosen”.
