AISS Hosts the Special Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul


On June 15, 2017, the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) as a part of its regular interactions on Afghanistan’s foreign policy hosted H.E Ambassador Mr. Hugo Llorens, Special Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul. Ambassador Llorens presented a key note speech on “U.S.-Afghanistan relations in the early stage of President Trump’s administration”.

In his remarks, Ambassador Llorens highlighted the enormous achievements of Afghanistan since 2002, notwithstanding the country’s significant remaining challenges. He assured his county’s full support and commitment towards political stability, , forthcoming elections , economic development, regional cooperation and peace process in Afghanistan. He added Afghanistan is and will remain the strategic ally of the United States. The session was followed by an open discussion on the way forward.

Today’s event was attended by a number of government officials, members of the parliament, academia, civil society activists and journalists. The speech was followed by a question and answer session, in which Ambassador Hugo Llorens replied to the questions of the participants.
