AISS’s Research Paper on “Typology of Religious trends in Contemporary Herat”


On Tuesday 13 March 2018, the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) launched its recent research paper entitled “Typology of Religious trends in Contemporary Herat”. This research reviews the historical background and the present performance of various schools of political Islam in Herat, analyzing different characteristics of these sects, including their potential for disseminating extremism. The paper provides suggestions for government officials, particularly those in Herat, on how the activities of political Islam should be supervised in the province and should reminded ten current religious trends in were covered by this research paper. 

The event was attended by representatives from the Afghan government, parliament, civil society, academia, and media agencies. The event concluded with a Q&A session.
