Review and Launch of the Reseach "An Inquiry into Taliban Theology" in Mashhad

The unveiling event for the research "An Inquiry into Taliban Theology: Deobandism with a Pashtunwali Flavor" was held at the Jomhor News Agency office in Mashhad. The event was attended by esteemed cultural figures, university professors, and Afghan students residing in Mashhad. The gathering sparked lively discussions, especially when Gholamuddin Kalantari and Seyed Hossein Homayoun Mesbah, two renowned university professors, shared their insightful criticisms of the research by Abdul Kabir Salihi.

Kalantari believes that the author of the research has criticized Islamic law under the pretext of the Taliban's actions and has wrongly attributed the actions of this group to Islam. Kalantari states that the author has used extensive and comprehensive terms in the research's abstract that require separate research. According to Kalantari, the research needs to solve the issues raised, and the author deals with them in a biased manner. Kalantari believes that in the study, Kandahar Province is introduced as the "base or origin" of the Taliban, which is "incorrect." He rejects the existence of "political Islam" and says that "Islam has been one Islam from the beginning to the present, and the term political Islam is a Western construct." Kalantari also added that the study describes the "Darul Uloom Deoband" as extremist, which is incorrect. According to him, the Taliban are influenced by Deobandi's thoughts, but their actions do not reflect "Deobandi principles."

Seyed Hossein Homayoun Mesbah also challenged the author's claim of a link between 'violence and totalitarianism' and Islam, asserting that 'there is no such thing in Islam.'

The event concluded with a Q&A session between the speakers and participants.
