Civil Resistance Against the Taliban: Goals, Methods, and Challenges

The Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies will host a webinar titled “Civil Resistance Against the Taliban: Goals, Methods, and Challenges” on Sunday, April 27. The event will explore one of the most fundamental and accessible forms of struggle against authoritarian regimes—nonviolent resistance rooted in legality, civic agency, and ethical defiance. With contributions from scholars in law, political science, and sociology, the discussion will examine what civil resistance means in the context of Taliban regime, how it can take shape, what cultural, legal, and traditional capacities exist to support it, and what structural obstacles such movements face in Afghanistan’s current political landscape.
