Job Summary
The Senior Programs and Coordination Officer is responsible for the management, planning, and coordination of activities in AISS’s Herat office. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, research projects, events and conferences, maintenance of relationships with domestic and international partners and stakeholders, and administration duties:
Job Responsibilities
Research and Outreach Duties:
- Manage and develop working relationships with internal and external partners
- Supervise creative management programs, conferences, forums, meetings, cultural events, research launch ceremonies, and press briefings
- Oversee planning for the International Herat Security Dialogue conference
- Manage the Herat office’s public relations and meetings with universities, think tanks, public institutions, media, political and civic networks, and women's rights activists
- Manage and supervise coordination of the (field) research team
- Provide Herat-specific donor lists and institutions in collaboration with AISS office in Kabul
- Compose research proposals, concept notes, and budget proposals for Herat office projects
- Identify, in collaboration with the AISS Kabul office, potential opportunities for research and project enlargement at the provincial level
Organizational Duties:
- Manage and supervise all day-day activities of the Herat office as well as the activities of the AISS office in the Western Zone
- Manage all financial and administrative functions in coordination with AISS HQ in Kabul
- Manage and implement AISS policies in a timely fashion
- Prepare weekly, quarterly, and annual reports to the AISS Kabul office on the Herat office’s administrative, planning and audit activities
- Archive, comprehensively and systematically, all administrative, financial, and research documents of the Herat office
- Conduct annual staff evaluations of the AISS Herat office in accordance with AISS internal policies
- Plan and establish a precise executive timetable for all programs and activities of the AISS office in Herat
- Prepare annual business plans for Herat office activities
- Prepare, in coordination with the Financial and Administrative Section of the AISS Kabul office, an annual financial and procurement plan for all Herat office activities
- Prepare employment and service contracts for AISS staff in Herat
Qualification And Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree - Master’s Degree Preferred
- At least five years of experience in a similar role in a national or international organization
- Ability to work to strict timelines under pressure in a challenging environment
- Must be flexible and prepared to perform other duties and work irregular hours when required
- Must be able to work as part of a team. Ability to interact effectively with a range of researchers, community members, local government actors, NGOs, and development partners is essential
- Experience providing presentations to a variety of audiences
Desirable Skills:
- Proven professional writing skills
- Excellent computer literacy, including experience with: Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, and any other statistical programs
- Mastery of Farsi and English are essential; working knowledge of Pashtu desirable
